Ken Brasfield...

The Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame is proud to honor Ken Brasfield as this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for his commitment to the Jackson-Madison County community over the past 40 years. He has received numerous awards over the years which are indicative of his hard work and desire to make Jackson-Madison County a better place to live.

Ken has received Jackson’s Man of the Year award and the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America. He has served on many charitable and professional boards over the years including RIFA and First American Bank. He has also been Chairmen of the Board of Directors for Youth Town of Tennessee (two terms), the local YMCA, and Hospital Corporation of America. He has acted as President of the Jackson
Rotary Club, the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce and the United Way (two terms). He was a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Carl Perkins Center for the prevention of child abuse and has served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. He is a recipient of Lane College’s Distinguished Service Award. Ken and his company, Brasfield Construction, were honored by the YMCA when their athletic field was named after him.

On many building projects for non-profit organizations, Brasfield Construction oversees the projects at no profit or overhead as well as no charge for project management. Several of these projects include the intake facility for JACOA’s Montgomery Hall, the admissions office at Lambuth University, the Union University baseball, softball and soccer complexes, and the memorial to the thirteen victims of the 2003 tornado. Brasfield Construction provided labor and materials for the chapel at Youth Town and also provided the labor for the soccer field and pavilion along with the dirt work at the Boys and Girls Club. Brasfield Construction has also sponsored a T-Ball team for over twenty-five years and a YMCA youth basketball team for over thirty years. They have also been active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Ken attended Eastern Oklahoma State College where he played baseball and was named to their Hall of Fame. From there, he went to Oklahoma State University where he was a pitcher his junior and senior year and helped his team to two College World Series appearances. Ken and his wife, Sandra, reside in Jackson. They have three children, Reed, Jeff and Leslie (Forbes) and seven grandchildren.
