Sacred Heart of Jesus High School

Jasmine Blankenship

Sacred Heart’s female athlete of the year, Jasmine Blankenship, played volleyball and basketball and was captain of both teams her senior year as well as being captain of the cheer squad. She is the school’s all-time leader in 3-point baskets with more than 240. She averaged 12 points, 3.2 assists and 2.3 steals. A member of Sacred Heart’s Beta Club and National Honor Society, she has a 4.55 grade point average and plans to study physical therapy at Trevecca Nazarene University.

Jake Keyl

Sacred Heart’s male athlete of the year, Jake Keyl, played football, basketball and baseball for the school. He was the most valuable player in baseball and football. He had 90 tackles in eight football games. He passed for 1,360 yards and 18 touchdowns and ran for 7 TDs. He had a .300 batting average in baseball. He made a 30 on the ACT, has a 4.22 grade point average, and plans to study pre-med and play baseball at Union University.

MADISON ACADEMIC MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL

Madissen Mebane

Madison’s female athlete of the year, Madissen Mebane, excelled in basketball and track and field. She was a three-year starter and team captain in basketball, averaging 7.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.4 assists. She was all-district, all-tournament, and all-academic with a 3.46 grade point average. In track and field she ran the 100- and 200-meter dashes and placed at state in the 800-meter relay. She plans to attend Tennessee State University and study psychology.

Drew Mayo

Madison’s male athlete of the year, Drew Mayo, played basketball three years, started two years and was team captain this season. He averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists this season. He was all-district, all-tournament, all-region and all-academic. A member of the school’s National Honor Society, he has a 4.0 grade point average and received a $96,000 honors scholarship over four years at Hendrix College in Arkansas, where he will play basketball.

LIBERTY TECHNOLOGY MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL

Naturelle Price

Liberty Tech’s female athlete of the year, Naturelle Price, excelled as a cheerleader and may continue that activity in college. She was co-captain of Liberty’s cheerleaders and served as a student assistant coach for the Northeast Middle School cheer team. She was an honor-roll student with a 3.3 grade point average and plans to attend Spelman College and study to be a dental hygienist.

Devon Nappier-Smith

Liberty Tech’s male athlete of the year, Devon Nappier-Smith, played basketball and was chosen the team’s captain. He was all-district, all-region and all-academic. He averaged 11.5 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. He is an honor-roll student with a 3.0 grade point average, and he had perfect attendance at Liberty. He plans to attend the University of Mississippi.

JACKSON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Alli Hylkema

Jackson Christian’s female athlete of the year, Alli Hylkema, ran cross country and track for the Lady Eagles. She was The Jackson Sun All-West Tennessee Runner of the Year as a senior and made the All-West team four straight years. She was a state qualifier in cross country five years and finished in the top 5 her junior and senior seasons. In track she placed 3rd in the state in the 2-mile run and 5th in the mile. She has a 4.25 grade point average and signed with Ouachita Baptist in Arkansas.

Tacker Nash

Jackson Christian’s male athlete of the year, Tacker Nash, played football for the Eagles and earned all-state honors at linebacker as a junior and senior. He was also first-team all-region both seasons. He had 283 career tackles and 116 solo stops the last two seasons. He added 38 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries and one sack. He has a 4.52 grade point average and signed with Rhodes College to play football.

NORTH SIDE HIGH SCHOOL

Caitlyn Graves

North Side’s female athlete of the year, Maya Bridgeman, excelled in tennis, cheerleading and academics. She won 14 of 18 singles matches and 15 of 18 doubles during her career for the Lady Indians. She was a cheerleader four years and cheer captain this year. Bridgeman is president of the school’s National Honor Society and Beta Club and has extensive community service. She has a 3.82 GPA and plans to attend Rhodes College in Memphis to study psychology and pre-law.

DeMahri Wallace

North Side’s male athlete of the year, Adam Smith, was captain of the Indians’ basketball team. He made the all-district and all-academic teams this season and was all-region last year. During his career, he scored 880 points, made 35 percent of his 3-point attempts, made 57 percent of his free-throw attempts and averaged 11 points and five rebounds. He plans to attend Austin Peay State University and major in business.

SOUTH SIDE HIGH SCHOOL

Breanna Ramsey

South Side’s female athlete of the year, Breanna Ramsey, played volleyball and softball and was voted Most Athletic Female by her classmates. She was all-district and offensive MVP in softball, batting .401 with 38 RBI, 8 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs and 18 stolen bases. In volleyball she had the most assists and was named best floor defender. She has a 3.67 grade point average and has signed a softball scholarship with Blue Mountain College in Mississippi.

Ericko Sain II

South Side’s male athlete of the year, Ericko Sain II, played basketball and ran track for the Hawks. He was a Mr. Basketball finalist, team captain and most valuable player in the district tournament. He was all-district four years, scored more than 1,000 career points and has a school record 73 dunks. He helped South Side win three district and three region championships, two sectional titles and a state runner-up trophy. As of this writing, he was averaging 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Voted Mr. South Side, he plans to study physical therapy and attend college on a basketball scholarship.

TRINITY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Hannah Yarbrough

TCA’s female athlete of the year, Hannah Yarbrough, played soccer and basketball four years and softball five seasons for the Lady Lions. She was the basketball team’s captain the past two seasons, helping TCA win the district, place second in the region and advance to the Final Four at state this year. She was all-district the past two seasons in softball and helped the team advance to state last season, when she was named the team’s defensive player of the year. She batted .386 with 33 RBI and 2 homers. She has a 4.54 GPA and plans to major in marketing at Tennessee Knoxville.

Noah Mauldin

TCA’s male athlete of the year, Noah Mauldin, ran cross country and track and played basketball for the Lions all four years. He was team captain for cross country and basketball. He ran in the cross country state meet three times, was second-team All-West Tennessee in 2021, and was a Jesse Owens Division elite runner. He had more than 30 top-10 finishes. He was the junior class president and is the SGA president. He has a weighted 4.28 GPA and plans to run cross country and study business at Union University.

UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF JACKSON

Mae Howell

USJ’s female athlete of the year, Mae Howell, is a four-year member of the track team and played soccer and basketball two years. In track last season she was all-region and All-West Tennessee and competed in the state finals in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. She played on USJ’s state championship soccer team in 2021 and the state runner-up team in 2020. She is involved in numerous extracurricular activities and honor societies. She made a 30 on the ACT and has a 4.55 grade point average. She plans to attend Auburn University and major in marketing.

Drew Morris

USJ’s male athlete of the year, Drew Morris, is the only senior Bruin to have played football, basketball and baseball all four years. He was an all-region wide receiver in football last season, averaging 17.5 yards per catch with 4 touchdowns and 529 all-purpose yards. In basketball this season he had 22 steals and averaged 5.4 points and 3 assists. He was all-region and all-district in baseball last season as a pitcher. He had a 5-1 record and 2.17 ERA with 39 strikeouts. He has a 4.42 grade point average and plans to major in biology with a pre-dental emphasis at either Tennessee Knoxville or the University of Mississippi.
