Jackson Central-Merry HS
Keyshun Anderson-Clark
JCM’s male athlete of the year, Keyshun Anderson-Clark, played football and competed in track and field for the Cougars. He was a first team all-region selection last football season and led the Cougars in sacks and tackles for loss. He played in the Sports Plus West TN All-Star Game and is a member of JCM’s 1,000-pound Lift Club. He plans to play football at Bethel University.
Cheyenne Love
JCM’s female athlete of the year, Cheyenne Love, played basketball three seasons for the Lady Cougars. She was named the team’s most improved player this season and was on the all-academic team with a 3.0 grade point average. She won the coaches’ award as a junior. She was active in the Salvation Army Angel Tree drive and the Red Kettle collections. She hopes to play basketball at a junior college.
Jackson Central-Merry Early College
Kameron Myles
JCM Early College’s male athlete of the year, Kameron Myles, played basketball for JCM and helped lead a 10-0 district run this season. He was team captain and made the all-district and all-academic teams. He was a scholarship recipient at the MLK Tournament in Memphis. With a 3.35 GPA he is a member of JCM’s National Honor Society and on the A/B honor roll. He plans to attend Tennessee-Martin and be part of the Call Me Mister program that aims to increase the pool of male teachers. He plans to major in education and become a middle school math teacher.
Sandrea Hurt
JCM Early College’s female athlete of the year, Sandrea Hurt, has been a three-sport athlete, playing basketball 4 years at JCM and, under the co-op program, running track 4 years and playing volleyball 2 years at Madison Academic. A sprinter, she ran the second leg on the 4x200 relay team that won the state and set a school record with a time of 1:44.75 in 2022. Her 4x400 relay team won the state in 2021 and the 4x200 team was state runner-up. She was JCM’s leading defender this basketball season, averaging 4 steals, 8 points and 5 rebounds as a 5-foot-9 forward. She was on the district’s all-academic team with a 3.9 GPA. She played volleyball two years and was all-district as a sophomore. She plans to attend Tennessee State and major in pre-medicine with hopes of attending Meharry Medical College.
Liberty High School
Greg Morris
Liberty Tech’s male athlete of the year, Greg Morris, was captain on both the football and basketball teams for the Crusaders. Last season he was the football team’s leading receiver with 17 catches for 144 yards and one touchdown. On defense he led the team with 23 solo tackles and 8 assists, 2 for loss, and four QB sacks. He returned 5 kickoffs for 136 yards (27 avg.) and one TD. He averaged 5 points and 8 rebounds in basketball. He was all-academic with a 3.2 GPA. He plans to attend Middle Tennessee State.
Sydnee Cole
Liberty Tech’s female athlete of the year, Sydnee Cole, played basketball for the Lady Crusaders. She made the all-tournament team in the Hub City Classic and was all-district and all-region. She averaged 19 points and five rebounds. She received an invitation to play in the BCAT All-Star Game in Murfreesboro. She made the all-academic team with a 3.3 grade point average and is ranked 11th among 120 in her class. She hopes to study athletic training in college.

Marshal Mize
Madison’s female athlete of the year, Grace Ghouinard, played four years of basketball and soccer for the Lady Mustangs. She was captain, all-district and defensive player of the year for the soccer team last season. She was captain of the basketball team two years. This season she averaged 8.5 points and 4 assists and was all-district. She was also all-academic with a 3.89 grade point average. She plans to attend South Alabama and pursue a degree in marine biology with a pre-veterinarian track.

Madison’s female athlete of the year, Grace Ghouinard, played four years of basketball and soccer for the Lady Mustangs. Joseph Marshall
North Side’s male athlete of the year, Joseph Marshall, played football, basketball, baseball and tennis for the Indians. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior has won two district championships in tennis. He was a starter on the football and basketball teams and plays third base on the baseball team. He scored 30 on the ACT, has a 3.2 grade point average and ranks 31 in a class of 190. He plans to major in zoology in college.

North Side’s male athlete of the year, Joseph Marshall, played football, basketball, baseball and tennis for the Indians. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior has won two district championships in tennis. He was a starter on the football and basketball teams and plays third base on the baseball team. He scored 30 on the ACT, has a 3.2 grade point average and ranks 31 in a class of 190. Christian Lo
South Side’s female athlete of the year, Kimora Currie, played basketball and volleyball for the Lady Hawks. Captain of the basketball team, she helped lead South Side to the Class AAA state championship last season and a state quarterfinal appearance this year. An all-district pick, she averaged 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. She played volleyball four years as a middle blocker and outside hitter. She had 66 aces, 231 kills, 20 blocks and 216 digs this season.

South Side’s female athlete of the year, Kimora Currie, played basketball and volleyball for the Lady Hawks. Captain of the basketball team, she helped lead South Side to the Class AAA state championship last season and a state quarterfinal appearance this year. An all-district pick, she averaged 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. She played volleyball four years as a middle blocker and outside hitter. TCA’s female athlete of the year, Anna Sanders, was captain of the Lady Lions’ basketball and soccer teams. She led the basketball team in free-throw percentage (77%), assists (49) and 3-point percentage (28%) and was all-district. She was the soccer team’s Player of the Year. She ranks No. 1 in her class academically with a 4.78 grade point average and a 30 ACT score. She is president of the Student Government Association and involved in numerous extracurricular activities. She plans to pursue a nursing degree, earn a master’s and become a certified registered nurse anesthetist.

Hayes Carney
USJ’s male athlete of the year, Hayes Carney, ran track and played basketball for the Bruins. He was all-state last track season and ran on the state champion 4x800m relay team. He also runs on the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams. He was co-captain of the basketball team. He is an Eagle Scout and a member of the National Honor Society and National English Honor Society. He has a 4.40 grade point average and plans to attend the University of Tennessee Knoxville.
Ava Rose
USJ’s female athlete of the year, Ava Rose, played soccer four years for the Lady Bruins. Last season she helped the team advance to the state semifinals and was all-district and first team All-West Tennessee. As a junior she was the defensive MVP of the West TN All-Star Game. During her career the team won 67 of 83 games and had 11 shutouts last season. A member of the National Honor Society and numerous other organizations at USJ, she plans to continue her athletic career at Carson-Newman University and major in exercise science.
